Flanders and back

Unread post by Bilkob »

So, last night back from a whirlwind 700mile round trip in the CX to Belgium to watch a bike race, visit a few WW1 memorials and stock up on beer!
The car ran faultlesly and sat rock steady for hours at motorway speeds, and occasionally a sniff more.
It was also fine at chasing a hectic bike race round Flemish farm tracks, and then carried 3 tired and wet blokes and a fair haul of beer home in self levelling splendour
A few observations
1. The wiper motor is slow and weak
2. The exhaust obviously 'grows' a bit with extended high speed running and touches the back valence which gets boomy and annoying especially when lifting off the throttle-this is a simple fix
3. Although the odometer isn't working, a very rough guesstimate says fuel economy is ok-600 plus fast miles in filthy weather on a bit less than 2 tankfulls
4. The dreaded cutting out when idling never occurred, I was fairly diligent with not it letting it run to long but we did sit in it at times with the heater and relist on full blast, trying to outsmart 200 maniacs on bikes whilst reading soggy maps and trying to get a GPS signal
5. The heater (fan) is just crap!
6.WHY do the French think it's ok to sit RIGHT on your bumper at 130+ Ks....?!
7. Pro bike racers in these 'Spring Classic races are hard as nails and bonkers!!!!!
8.I need to wash it!

Aren't they just! Especially when racing along the pave (cobbles)...

Why did you not hang around for Paris-Roubiax this weekend? That promises to be a great one...

We watched Dwars door Vlandaren, it's a 180km mini Tour of Flanders, it's Flanders THIS Sunday, then P-R next weekend. Judging by the state of the roads and the sodden field this Flanders could be EPIC
