Citroen relay stereo problem
Hi I have a 07 plate relay 2.2 I have converted to a camper but the stereo has problems.
1. Stereo will pick up local radio
2. Will loose signal when I move the van.
3. Traveling down the motorway it will pick up a local station for about 3 miles
I have changed the stereo with no joy
I have changed the Ariel no joy
Have installed a new Ariel no joy
Have put in a modern head unit still the same

Have you tried changing the antenna cable?

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
It is likely to be water and/ corrosion in the aerial wiring or the small amplifier unit (if fitted). Sometimes water can get in and cause havoc.

Ariel is connected directly to stereo

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
Some Citroen aerials have an amplifier built into the base of the aerial. If water gets in here it can reduce the effective reception range of the radio.

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
If the aerial base unit is an amplified type are you sure that it's getting a proper 12v feed? On PSA vehicles I have seen types which have a separate 12v feed and others which have 12v sent down the aerial lead. You obviously have to match the type to the 12v supply.

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
As I already mentioned about the amplified aerial in my first post - here is the unit with the amplified base I mentioned - similar to this. I can't be specific without a VIN and an RPO - as there are so many variants of these vans and as some are Fiat Hybrids, not all the diagrams are available.GiveMeABreak wrote: 13 Dec 2017, 19:57 It is likely to be water and/ corrosion in the aerial wiring or the small amplifier unit (if fitted). Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
Ok, it's as I originally posted - so no change (good guess
)
There's nothing about the base being amplified, and also no other identifiable amplifier boxes or adapters as there are in the C5 for example - but here is a better picture of the aerial fixing under the headlining:

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
Try attaching a piece of normal wire (about 50cm) to the antenna socket on the radio, and see if that gets better reception, to at least prove that the head unit is working OK.

Re: Citroen relay stereo problem
Its a long shot but i have seen alternator insulation breaking down or a alternator bearing running rough that has caused your exact symptoms.

I presume that issue would only appear with the engine running?
