An extra one for Renault!
Here's a question that's been puzzling me for a while.
The Citroen part of the forum is by far the most popular, followed by Peugeot, then Renault. but why? Just looked on Autotrader for 'used cars for sale' and there are 15000 Cits, 19ooo Pugs and 15000 Renaults. I've not looked at new car sales figures, but this would suggest that either more Pug owners want to sell and migrate or there are more on the roads of the UK. The fact that the Cit bit is larger on the forum would suggest that either more Cit owners work hands on or that they go wrong more often? With Renault in third place, with the same number of cars on the market as Cit would suggest they don't go wrong or the owners don't do spanners.
Thought I'd post on Renault to give them a hike since the 'Saga of the 6' seems to have ended for the moment.
Thoughts gentlemen and ladies?

Re: An extra one for Renault!
Neither pug nor Renault have the main draw for a lot of us, that being the super plush hydropneumatic suspension ( OK some pugs did have it, in part, but they were hardly volume sellers).
I would suggest that this coupled with Citroen's flair for gadgetry & unusual style makes them more popular amongst those of us not afraid to go fault hunting where the more "mainstream " Peugeot customers are likely less biased toward being mechanically minded? My theory anyway.
And yes, we need more classic Renault content soon. If nothing is forthcoming in the next few months I may be forced to seek out a Fuego to play with!

Re: An extra one for Renault!
I'll bring my avatar to the party as a kick-off
Over on French Car Chat there's a "Classics under £10,000 thread" which covers "everything everywhere", and my latest contributions are a nice Renault 4 (blue with tartan interior trim) and a DKR DRK of course!three wheeler with Renault innards, I did notice on the various auction lists a Renault 9, and a Renault 6 at coming sales, so inspired by your post, I'll link to them!

Re: An extra one for Renault!
Back in the dim past, this forum started life as the Andyspares forum, and Andyspares were particularly active in supplying after-market parts for Citroens, so this forum became the go-to place for Citroen advice. We already had a lot of Citroen posts by the time GSF took over Andyspares and this forum was spun out as an independent entity
There are other very good forums for Peugeot owners, so the owners are spread more thinly between forums.
Renault - I don't know... Perhaps they are just too reliable?

Not really, there's 2 decent Renault forums which are both long established. When I had Renault I tended to socialise here and look for advice on other forums as fcf just doesn't have the database of knowledge for Renault that exists here for Citroen.
The Renault forums themselves are technically excellent but not as fun as fcf.

Re: An extra one for Renault!
Cheers for the link Neil, that's just given me a very good hour looking over their very low mileage cars. Good job I haven't got a pocket full of money. If I have had, I wouldn't now!

Re: An extra one for Renault!
I think a lot has to do with the individuals on a forum. Renualt drivers cannot be everywhere and they quite simply are not on here. The basis of interest here and the high post members, just seem to be Citroen minded. I learned a lot about Renault cars when I had one. Sadly, I have forgot the lot of it now

Citroen C5 1.6 HDI 110bhp Estate 06 plate
French Mistresses gone.
Citroen C5 HDI Mk 1 hatchback

ZX 1.9D Est.

I dislike Renaults as every single one I've ever been in or dealt with personally has caught fire!

Hydropneumatic Citroens = a bit of a nerdy car.lexi wrote:I think a lot has to do with the individuals on a forum. Renualt drivers cannot be everywhere and they quite simply are not on here. Re: An extra one for Renault!
Although I ran hydropnumatic Citroens for 30 years and loved them, and would still be running an XM or even a CX if they were about at the right price, I must confess the the Peugeot 406 Hdi estates I run now are the most reliable cars I have ever owned, this doesn't necessarily apply to all Peugeots but these cars just never seem to go wrong and the engines and manual gearboxes are bombproof and even after 15 years everything still works, including the internal headlight adjuster - amazing.
This is possibly why there there are fewer posts from Peugeot owners.

Re: An extra one for Renault!
Very interesting responses from experienced members. I can see why Cits have more posts due to the site originally being a Citroen forum along with the more complex suspension systems (an extra thing to go wrong). What would be interesting now is to know how the membership is split regarding ownership of the different marques? I don't know if the site admins have access to this info? It may back-up Xantia-v6's post.

Re: An extra one for Renault!
I'll certainly think about lobbing up some posts/topics in the Renault section.
