C5x7, fan not on, Removing the bumper for access
As it says....that will teach me to think I should give it a new radio !
SO, AirCon all Ok, heater works fine. 1st noticed problem when the aircon goes warm, check the temp and rising, then the STOP temp to high
Got home after a cool off period using the interior heater on full hot defrost (unpleasant), the car cooled itself when moving.
Cooled off all afternoon, Air-Con on, start.....No fan.
So, relays (where), I
cannot find a fuse listed,
? can I direct feed the fan to test it ?
So, this is problem No3 in short order, angry with it now and would rather not go back to that crappy dealer in Bath again if its simple.

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
Is the fan behind the front bumper turning or not? If not, my dad had the same situation on his C5 Mk II, the solution was dismantling the front, accessing the fan motor, and having it sent to the electrical specialist that replaced the motor brushes (they were worn out, and could hardly turn the rotor anymore) ... pretty cheap solution if that's your situation

Cheers,
The fan does not turn at all, it was yesterday
is it bumper off with the X7 ? or can you get to it via the top panel ?

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
As far as I can tell from the repair procedure (for the engine cooler, but related to the fan), it is bumper off

I don't pretend to know anything about the C5, but is there one fan or two? If two, and both have failed simultaneously, I would be suspecting a fuse, relay or wiring issue.

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
A quick glance didn't show anything useful ... the car's manual has the only mention of the fan for the Air Con, bonnet fuse box, position F11, 40A fuse ...

The relay appears to be a maroon one not that far from the fan itself. It's quite possibly mounted on the fan framework - Cit Service isn't that clear. P/N 6545N3 / 6545XF

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
Before doing anything more drastic, check if the fan is seized - very common on earlier models.
Easy enough - just allow time for the car to cool, so the fan doesn't start running unexpectedly, then poke it with a stick!
The blades should turn freely.

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
The fan relay is a 40amp one, I wonder what fuse protects the fan then ? the same one cannot do as the aircon works great until it got hot.
Thanks again for looking.
With all this "can bus" crap you would think a failed cooling fan would throw a warning....everything else does
PS. Do you know about steering wheel patch leads to a Sony or Pioneer ?

The Fan turns free and easy, no rubbing or grinding noise, free spinning. It did not fire on cold start with AirCon on (which works very well btw).

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
Cit Service has it as a 50amp relay - but that's using my '09 2.0 manual car as a reference.Stickyfinger wrote:The fan relay is a 40amp one
Not me guv... but I might have an old Autoleads Xantia to Sony one lying around somewhere that you can have if you're still looking to upgrade your other 'ongoing project'Stickyfinger wrote:PS. Do you know about steering wheel patch leads to a Sony or Pioneer ?

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
Ta....Cit service says 40amp for mine, looking at it I may be able to get to the relay via the top panels, after the morning job I will have a go and ID it. There is so much space in there vrs the Activa
On the patch lead....I was really asking Vborovic as he seems to be very able with stuff that sparks
....but yes, if you have one I would like to take you up on that as one of the head units I have just stolen on ebay (love to snipe) to be fitted to the Xantia....PM me the amount you want.

If I can find it, you can have it for free, gratis and for nothing.... I just need to find it ! I've got some old XM, Pug and Renault ones kicking around somewhere as well.Stickyfinger wrote: On the patch lead....I was really asking Vborovic as he seems to be very able with stuff that sparks....but yes, if you have one I would like to take you up on that as one of the head units I have just stolen on ebay (love to snipe) to be fitted to the Xantia....PM me the amount you want.

Re: C5x7, fan not on, overheat warning
Not sure, I don't think I've seen any steering wheel patch cables for the 2008+ C5 ... the steering wheel is too complex compared to the previous C5s, maybe that's why no one bothered to make one ... will need to look into chinese sites, they're pretty crafty with stuff like that ...
