OK, I have decided, project Stictiva is on...

I will be sourcing a car from France....and an exclusive donor from the UK.

What I need is a good list of inspection points which are critical/save massive $$$ in the long run.
Which are the best cars (age) ect

(I do not think a V6 is my way to go, I plan on tickling the 2ltr)

Any pointer would be most gratefully revived.

I believe the V6 would be the way to go if you want better power and driveability, and a true "GT" car. You can get decent power out of the 2.0 but it's a bit of a rough old beast, not powerful and not economical and you get into the dodgy arena of ECU remapping and modifying to run more boost and get proper power out of it. A manual V6 would be what I, and many others I suspect, would go for if importing from France. If you want a two litre, you might as well wait until one comes up for sale on here, as they do, and get a RHD one and save all the importation and modification buggeration. I'm sure a man of your talents will have no problem driving an LHD car here but it seems an awful lot of trouble to go to for a 2.0.

The usual Xantia faults are the ones to look for, plus leaky rams and grotty electrovalves. I really liked mine a lot. If you want something to really enjoy, as Jim, Chris, Dean and Chris have found, they need more power.

Alternatively, be different and import a 2.0 HDi diesel Activa and do some proper engine mods and remapping. I believe these motors will, with the right mods, chuck out up to 170 bhp and enormous amounts of torque..

I have to agree with what Mike has said...

If you're going to the hassle that you say you're thinking of, get a V6 :)

Hi guys, thanks for that..

Any photos showing failed rams, leaks ect would be cool

Well yes, a V6 Frog would be nice, but you can count them on....well \I can find 1 in total, I I don't like the look of that one either.

So/But as one No1 PRIME need is a solid shell and 2nd..working "Bits" (mostly) then the 3rd, the V6....

First job will be engine/box out, strip/overhaul that and convert to RHD from the uK donor.
...so if I can find a UK v6 I may go that way but as I am thinking of getting back into a little Hill Climbing and I can get access to Donnington Park, I may be happy with a 2.1 ltr track car.

Ummm............. the cogs are turning

Sticky,

I agree too with David and Mike..

I have loads of information for you, just a case of collating it all..

Do you have your exclusive donor? I ask as I have an Exclusive donor here for my V6 project and moist of the Exclusive bits you want I'll not need.. All I really need is the engine and most of the front subframe/electrics.

If you wanted the rest of the car it's yours..

I would suggest you definitely need a V6, or another car entirely for that. I did a track day at Snetterton in my untweaked 2.0 Activa years ago. It didn't feel remotely quick. It could have used another 100bhp then it might have done. 150bhp gets you knowhere in a 1400kg car.

OK guys...I hear you :)....I would however I still worry due to the Auto box, what say you regarding the v6 with 5-on the floor, this box seems rare, does it hold up to abuse/take the power. Are any box specialists switching ratios. A motorway curse ratio would not be correct for me and its planned use, its why the lord invented trailers :)

Engine and box wise, I expect the car (hope) to scream it a lot so spares worry me, hence my concerns re the V6 and the box costing $$ to maintain....is this the case ?

A V6 Activa must be a manual Sticky! No question about it... A donor 'box and flywheel from a V6 Pug 406 Coupe is the way to go..

They are reasonably obtainable from specialist breakers...

If you wanted an Activa Auto you could do it but the Activa accumulator would need relocating as it is in the way...

The HP20 would be well up to it and so is the ML5T manual 'box.. Both built like brick outhouses...

As Jim Says there's a few 406 V6 coupe's around with the manual box at really silly money for what they are, I can vouch for that as I bought one.

How do you fancy yours becoming an auto so we can have your manual 'box Mark? I can supply a good 4HP20 and all the ancillaries you need  :)

OK, I like the PugV6 Stick option :), ?? does it still need more bits from a Xantia V6 other than the standard 2.0HDI bits ?

? rough price guess....Average car, no faults (terminal/rams, NEED), rust free shell (NEED 100%), poor paint OK, wings dents/body damage some ok, Engine poor/failed OK, box poor/failed OK

Average price for a reasonable Activa is probably less than £500 - that's a runner with MOT, 2.0 with possibly grotty bodywork (lacquer peel). Un - MOT'd? Can barely give them away..

Jim and Dave will know what's needed for a V6 conversion better than I. I could have a guess but it'd be only that..
