drive hdi citroens but being offered a renault dci?

Unread post by fotobright »

Hi,
I'm looking to replace my citroen xsara estate 2.0L HDI. Have been looking for a C5 but not much up here in central scotland.
I've just seen a 2004 Laguna estate 1.9DCI @ 66,000 but dont know anything about the reliability and running cost of the DCI engine. The HDI engine is one I know, should I consider the DCI or stick to what I know in terms of DIY repair costs?
Thanks
ps just noticed the ad says The ABS warning light is on and also the service light. I have access to a Lexia to check the issue, may or may not be a big problem?

Actually i've not idea whether Lexia works on A renault. Looking around thought at some of the general issues with early Laguna's night give those a miss and stick to a 2.0 HDI :)

There are a couple of Lagunas been offered in the "For Sale & Wanted" forum that may give a reasonable idea of what to expect.

The Lexia won't work on Renaults. I believe you want a Clip.

No it needs Renault Clip.

We had a laguna 2 with the 1.9dci and never had any problems in 5 1/2 yrs but I've known them to be problematic. A laguna 2 with the 2.0 dci might be a better choice. Imo they drive alot nicer than the equivalent C5 [-X. Or if you can stretch your budget laguna 3's are fantastic value.

The dCi isn't what you'd call tolerant, I've had 3 dCi, all fickle. How about a Picasso? Has to be Clip, other interfaces can be miles off.

Resolved the dCi issue by buying a C5 2.2L yesterday.
