2002 Renault Scenic 1.9dci fails to start

Unread post by slowpaul »

Our "new" Scenic with 114k miles on clock is now intermitantly refusing to start.
It Cranks well, and if its left it "coughs" but doesn't catch.

I towed it about 2 miles in to local Garage, when I got there it fired up first time!

I left it with them as it now had an engine light on, and they of course ran it through the diagnostics and then changed the TDC Sensor,

Drove it home all running well but £200 lighter in the pocket, and that very night it again refused to start

It has been suggested that it could be the low pressure fuel pump, I can't hear it running and when we crank the engine, fuel doesn't seem to be moving into the filter (any small air bubble just sits there!, I also pulled the inlet pipe off and no fuel came out)

I've tried banging on the fuel tank with the key in position 2 to see if this jogs the pump into action but this doesn't achieve any result

Please folks any other suggestions, and if it is the fuel pump, is this an easy own fix.

Thanks
Paul

Obvious I know but have you checked the fuses? Is the management light on? Is there fuel in the tank? Is the tank breather blocked? Is there a hiss when you open the filler cap?

What diag gear did they use? What codes were found?
Needs to go on Renault clip as the best way forward....with someone who knows what they are doing.
