Espace IV 3.0 Dci EGR....

I've just bought an 2003 Espace with a HUGE 3.0 V6 Diesel lump in it. It was blowing loads of black sooty smoke under acceleration and on inspection I discovered splits in the intercooler pipe. This was changed and the smoke has gone... almost!

Under harsh acceleration I get an error on the dash - "Fuel Injection System Fault" - and the car goes into limp mode, reduced power etc. I can reset this by stopping the engine, open the door, lock then unlock the car, open the door again and then restart. No problem with it until I hoof it again. The only OBDII codes listed are a generic EGR fault.

I want to clean the EGR but I don't know where it is. If I can access it I will but if I can't then I'm wondering if I can get it turned off? (Remapping the engine sometimes allows this but I don;t know if I can on this particular engine)

I also need an Oil Filter cover as the thread is stripped on the drain plug (there are some bloody cowboy mechanics about!) - any ideas as to where I could get one?

Apart from these issues, the car is fantastic. Did have an issue with the horn but that was a corroded wire (I've seen this before on Volvo Trucks)

You can sometimes get these engines in scrap yards. They are in Vel Satis and one or two rarer models.
That may be best for oil filter housing if Renault are costly.

The EGR ,I think is about centre top of engine. At a line where dipstick and oil filler meet. Quite a few bits to it I think.
Maybe worth a clean and then a check of the many sensors and pressure valves I would think.

Nice big vehicles those. Overheating at 80mph is what to watch for on them.
