Relay clicking passenger footwell

Unread post by StevieM »

Folks,

I am wondering if anyone can help me with this.

Scenic II 2006 1.9DCi

I have noticed that, when engine has not warmed up properly, there has recently been an intermittent relay click, seemingly from the passenger footwell, approx every 20-30 secs. (once engine up to temp., relay clicking stops entirely)

In sympathy with this, the headlamps may change brightness very marginally.

Plugged in u480 code reader...gave P0670 code for
"Glow plug control module cct fault".
If I clear this, it comes back.

Nil engine warning lamp on dash at all.....only actual symptom is that, when very cold, it is occasionally a little lumpy on starting.

Have read that each glow plug is only approx. an ohm, so, if this relay is indeed relevent to the glow circuit, then this would probably explain the headlamps dimming slightly under load particularly with all 4 drawing total ~50A.

I have not stuck an ohm meter across any of the plugs as yet to test, but I was wondering if anyone could comment on these observations, particularly if there are any relays in the footwell area that have anything to do with the glow circuit.

I trawled through the web for a few hours earlier, and (cannot find link now) It seems that glow relay may be in engine bay somewhere.

Please shout if you can comment on this.

The glowplug control module is located down below the left hand headlamp, it can be 'accessed' by removing the wheel arch liner, alternatively take off the bumper. The modules do go wrong but until you're sure about the glowplugs being 100% you could be chasing your tail. The glowplugs could still be working but if their resistance has changed the glowplug module will flag up errors which using Clip seem to imply the module is faulty.

The passenger footwell, really above and to the side of the glovebox is home to the UCH module and a mini fuseboard. The mini fuseboard usually houses 1 or 2 relays depending on the model and extras fitted wheras the UCH module is part of the computer systems that deal with all sorts and communicates with the other 2 computer modules via CANBUS. It's a real can of worms.

Steve,

Thanks for that.....I think I'll just leave all alone.

At the end of the day, even if I do find a failed plug, I am not going to be brave enough to replace it, even with a few gallons of penetrating oil, and hard run to bring head temp up!
