poping noise then engine fails to start
Hi, I have a megane 1.5dci 106bhp 2006 . The car was running perfect until I dropped to third gear to turn in a drive ,I heard a popping noise then I lost acceleration ,I turned the engine off then tried to start with no luck,it was turning but not firing, after being towed to the garage they investigated and said turbo was gone oil coming out of pipe on inspection ,I have since sourced a new turbo (at cost) and garage are fitting the unit, now they tell me that non starting was due to turbo issue but I have also heard that the turbo going would not stop the car from starting, the car as full service history etc and the work being done is at a garage were the car always goes for MOT and repairs so I have no reason not to trust the diagnosis ,could any ome please help. Thanks

Re: poping noise then engine fails to start
The only thing I can think it might be is the ecu has put a fault code up preventing the engine from starting.

Re: poping noise then engine fails to start
The garage should have checked before replacing the turbo, as this would not cause the engine to stop unless the turbo internals broke up and entered the engine.
Have they checked basic stuff like cambelt timing ?

Hi, just got the car back ,new turbo fitted and running (hopefully fine) I asked could the turbo really l cause the engine not to start his reply was if enough oil blocks the exhaust it will .

Good luck. I think you should check and make sure they removed the turbo oil feed filter for peace of mind.
