HOWTO: Retrofitting MK1 C5 Cruise Control

Post by CitroJim »

We are deeply indebted to Wheeler for taking the time and trouble to write the attached PDF document detailing the steps necessary to retrofit cruise control to a MK1 C5... This is an oft-asked question and now the steps and Lexia work necessary are very clearly described.

Retrofitting MK1 C5 Cruise Control - PDF Document

This is a big picture-heavy document and may take a while to download...

I have posted it here initially and will in due course move it to the appropriate area of the forum.

Wheeler - many thanks indeed :)

I would like to see this on S1.5 C5 models too. (Ones with C4 headlights)

Why not just buy a VTX C5, they have cruise as standard along with Exclusive and Exclusive SE models.. :-D

I helpfull document which I might need one day when I accidentally buy a Mk.1 C5

Only the LX and Design C5 facelifts do without cruise control, its standard on VTR, VTX and Exclusive.

I suspect the theory is much the same, only with the other stalk which has cruise and speed limiter functions.

I've never done it on a mk 2 but yes I would imagine its an almost identical procedure. The only other different thing is the accelerator pedal has a 'hard spot' switch on it for overriding the speed limiter function if you floor the pedal hard in an emergency. So you would also need to replace the pedal but I don't know if the extra
wiring for it is present or not.

Does any information appear on C5 1 anywhere on any display that the cruise control is active? I have retrofitted mine and works well but there is no visual confirmation. I am not sure if this is by design or there is another step to enable this.

No, there is no visual or audible inducation that the CC is enabled or what speed it is set to on the mk1.
