A few CX questions...

Unread post by Stormrage »

A few questions I've got, thought I'd stick them all in the one thread

* Can anyone recommend an outdoor cover? Sadly the new garage will not be done until this time next year (the old one is so unstable I wouldn't trust it..... and it's not long enough!) so I really don't want to leave her completely exposed to the elements.

* Does anyone know how to programme a PLIP key to the car? I have managed to get hold of one but whenever I google it I just get results for pairing a Xantia key with a Xantia :S

* Tyre pressure - the pressure given in the manual seems very low to me, I wondered if there was a general concensus in the CX community about the tyre pressures?

* Headlight Bulbs - I might have got this wrong so bare with me! - The bulbs that are currently fitted produce a yellow light which I assume is in keeping with the originals, can anyone recommend somewhere I could get replacements from that also produce a yellow light?

* Oil Additive - Usually when I service my cars I add Slick 50, but I have noticed in the owners manual it says you shouldn't use any additive - does anyone know if additive causes any harm?

I think that's all for now  thanks for humouring me and thank you very much for any advice offered!

Cheers,
Ash

I'm not 100% on this, however I believe that if you have just got the plip remote you'll also need the receiver that matches this (although I seem to remember mention of someone decoding some or something...). Either way, the original Plips are pretty useless mainly due to being through infra-red technology. Not many CXs have a working plip and if they do you sometimes see owners pointing at various angles through the windscreen to get it to work! I know a few CXers have retro fitted a modern plip system, here's a quote I found on the CCC:
cxprestigeauto from the CCC Forums wrote:It is all in the quality of the fitment! I bought the sensor and two remotes off Ebay not long after I got the car. Unfortunately the sensor is not just a plug in swap for the original central locking module since the connector strip is at 90 degrees to the circuit board albeit is with identical wiring I had to make up 8 connector cables with a female spade on each end and then link them all up. The results were however very pleasing. I am not sure how a later Series two unit would fit differently?
Probably not the same, but the BXers have done something similar - http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... hilit=plip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What wheels and tyres are you running? I seem to remember your car being on Alfa Alloys at one point, although I think it's on the original T-Slots? Pressures in the manual are the ones to go by...

Have a look on eBay - you've two choices really. You can buy the yellow bulbs, or buy yellow caps that fit over normal H4 Bulbs.

Thanks for the detailed reply! :D

They are the T slots, 210 wide TRXs so I'll go with what the manual says :)

The infra red is working with what seems to be a ZX era remote (very small single button) but the rubber covering the button is wearing and it's only a matter of time until it falls off  having managed to get hold of one of the original remotes I was hoping to get it working but I guess it isn't as simple as I'd hoped!

Excellent! I want to get some bulbs in stock as I don't want to be driving around with odd coloured bulbs!

thanks again,
Ash
