Grand Scenic Auto Lights

Unread post by raquel »

I had a Grand Scenic Dynamique VVT 2litre 05 reg until last week when my husband wrote it off. I have now bought an almost identical Grand Scenic Dynamique VVT 07 reg - identical model engine etc but have just discovered it doesn't appear to have automatic lights as my original model had. I have checked the specs (somewhere I can't recall on the internet) and every Grand Scenic listed had auto lights. It seems to be standard so where are they on my car? Should they be there? How can I find out? Really really want this function so any help appreciated.

I hate car crashes. Fingers crossed the replacement stays with you, until it's not required.

Did you see/try the "WikiAnswers" one on Scénic auto lights?

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_di ... ult_Scenic" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I take no responsibility for success or failure of this; it just popped up on a fairly quick Googling.

Cheers, Adam.

Thanks I've tried first suggestion - no joy. But the second bit - about pushing the auto button on the stalk - the button isn't there - thats how my old one worked. Well there is a button but not marked auto. Obviously this would mean I don't have auto lights BUT hubby seems to think that the button may have been replaced and as I said according to everything I've checked auto lights are standard on any model of Grand Scenic - is this the case?

It is possible the switch hub has been replaced.

Normally it's the whole deal that gets swapped when one of the rotary controls develops a fault - more common in Citroën and Peugeot, however. There are very few for sale on Fleabay so that suggests most last reasonably well.

I'm guessing that without the "Auto" wording, nothing happens if you try the procedure? Our Renault gadget expert is Luke, aka "R9UKE"; he's out and about presently (not sure when he'll be online).

A Renault dealer should be able to call up the spec/build sheet for your car using the VIN. It'd be rude if they tried charging for it - they could at least say if yours was delivered with auto lights.

Lol Cheers Addo :)

Bit of bad news, Raquel. Renault went through a funny phase in 2006 where they cut back on a few toys. It lasted about a year before they realised that they were being a bit miserable. It coincided with the facelift of the Mégane and Scénic which was late 2006, and stretched into late 2007 when they started piling on the gadgets again. So, no you won't have auto lights unless you have the range topping "Privilege" model. The Dynamique and Expression did have auto lights and wipers in the period your older Scénic was made, but they lost them in late 06.

The definitive way to check is behind your rear view mirror. On this car, and your old one, there's a big cover behind the mirror which houses the rain and light sensor. Whereas the mirror on your car will just be stuck directly to the windscreen as there's no rain or light sensor...

Wow; sneaky buggers. "More new. Less features." :x

Can it be converted readily by an indy? I mean, changing the control hub, fitting the sensor and coding both lights and wipers in. Then again, that's probably £200 in bits, and the same or more in labour...

Sneaky indeed. Though they did give them cruise control as standard which wasn't before. I'd rather have the auto stuff though...

In theory, yes. However, I'm not sure the wiring would be present at the top of the windscreen for the sensor. Also, you'd either need a new windscreen or be able to fashion the special clip and gel pad that holds the sensor to the screen. After that it's a matter of hooking the car up and letting it know what features it has. One of my Méganes didn't have tyre pressure sensors as standard, but the display was there. It was a matter of buying the valves and activating the feature through diagnostics - turned out cheaper than the option was new!

Valeo make an auto light control unit that can be fitted to any car (Valeo make parts for Pug, Citroen, etc) that sells for under £80, so may be the cheapest option.
