CX C-matic: crunchy gearbox

Why would a C-matic make a crunching sound while going into gear?
It only goes into gear at low revs with a horrible crunching sound.
Also what would prevent rear gear from engaging?

sounds like a dragging clutch but not knowing anything about the c-matic at all im not sure, if its an automatic hydraulic clutch with a standard manual box then i would suspect air in the clutch circuit.

I wonder if it just needs a new clutch? Is changing a clutch on one of these an amateur jobby?

- edit i just realised it has no clutch .. duh me...

They all do that, sir... Mostly from cold too, they struggle to engage gears...

Greame (aerodynamica) will no doubt be along shortly as he knows a lot about the C-Matic box...

the car does not go into reverse every and is very hard to get into any gear even when warm.

there is a bit missing on the connector rods coming from the gear stick, which explains why it was so loose.

where is the 'points' that need to be adjusted?

i found the points, and they seem correct, they move and match the settings in the haynes manual.

ho do i check that the elctro valve is not sticking? is it just a +12v trigger?

also just realised the rev counter does not work either .. could this be related?

Figured out it is the electric valve / solenoid at the front. Has anyone got a spare?
