Scenic OSF Bang

Unread post by DannyB »

Got a Mk1 Ph2 scenic that thuds /bangs somewhere near the front driver side wheel. Seems to be when the suspension is on re-bound i.e compresses then you get banging noise quickly together sometimes 3 or 4 bangs. Quite loud too garage can't suss it had ball joints and new bushes around the ani roll bar etc. They also said they had swapped struts other but the banging stayed same side :?

My only guess is the engine mount as the engine does seem to have a bit of movement but nothing to compare it by

It gets expensive when you start replacing stuff to find out.

Take a slow drive over the bumps and get a walker to have a listen.....no jokes please :-D
If you get an incline where it coming from then get car up on axle stand and start to pry the joints with bar. Put a big bar under the tyre with a wedge in there and yank it up and down to simulate movement.
They don't always show movement but sometimes with the leverage you can see it. So much rubber to check.

If engine mount is bad then it could allow exhaust knock?

I know on some scenic's they have a habit of breaking at the lower end which can't be easily seen - you will have to reach in and feel to see of the the lower end has come off. it's hard to spot.
