Scenic II Auto Brake

Unread post by wrinklet1 »

Hi all,
Can you help please, I have a 04Scenic II with auto handbrake, Now, every so often it makes a horrible screeching noise when it operates and the service warning light comes on. I have squirted WD40 onto the cable and mechanism thats one the rear wheels. it there anything else I can do without having to get the 'motor' replaced on the brakes??

WD40 is evil - it is designed as a water displacer. When the solvent evaporates off, it leaves a sticky mess that attracts dirt and allsorts. I suggest you inspect the cables and will probably find a split in the outer cover and a slight bulge in the steel inner, that is pressing on the cable. You might be able to get some machine oil into it to ease the problems, but if the inner has started to bulge it's replacement time. Unfortunately, it appears that the cables are part of the mechanism, and the replacement and reprogramming are not cheap.

Take a look >HERE< for info on the handbrake:

These electronic handbrakes are just a money maker for the manufactures, they are marketing them as a saftey feature to stop you rolling back on hills etc....they allow the use of them in the driving test also, which in my opnion is wrong, what happens when someone that has only ever drove a car with one of these handbrakes gets into a car that doesn't have one !

Cheers.
