Renault Clio 1.2 R reg

Hi all,

Is the first time I have posted in this room. I'm usually in the Citroen forum but needs must as the devil drives!

My problem, or actually, my friends problem is this. He has recently got himself a Renault Clio 1.2 with an R reg plate. A good good car generally but with the inevitable 'few' small problems. The biggest of which is the internal fan/heater system.

It has obviously been taken apart before by the previous owner, perhaps when they installed the stereo system which is quite good and working well.

The problem is that there seems to be nothing on any of the 3 main rotating switches. I turn the fan speed and no sound or anything from the fan. The heater temp is difficult to test without the fan working and the vent opening switch seems to be working.

I have checked the fuse box and all fuses are intact and present. I have looked behind and all the electrical connections seem to be fine. There is a block of electrics to the fan speed switch. The other switches are mechanical and difficult to test without the fan working but seem to be ok.

Im thinking about getting a 'new' switch set from a scrapyard and trying that to see if it just the switch board, im assuming the electrics block and wiring is ok. It might be the fan itself but im thinking it is more likely to be the switches. The rest of the electrics in the car seem to be working ok. The central locking etc are all good.

Has anyone got any advise about this? Im not that familiar with Clio's and we haven't got a Haynes to refer to.

Hi,

We got a switch set for the vent/heater/fan along with a few other needed bits of trim etc, and have tried the switch set. Still nothing from the fan for the internal fan system.

Is prob the fan itself? Does anyone know how to get access to this fan/ blower? Do I have to take the dashboard apart or is it in the engine compartment?

I think you will find the fan motor is accessed from the passenger foot well after you remove the glove box. If memory serves me correct there is one screw to remove and then the fan motor is removed by lifting a locking tab and rotate the motor to disengage the bayonet fitting. also well worth checking the resister pack as these give up on a regular basis. Hope this helps
