I have a 1998 R Reg Scenic 1.6RT Petrol with 45K on the clock. It has run perfectly till today.
I had parked the car in the street for about 2 hours and then it wouldn't start. The engine turned OK but wouldn't fire. I assumed that the immobiliser hadn't disarmed so clicked the plip twice, as I usually do, to disarm it - ie the red light on the dashboard stops flashing and the interior courtesy light comes on.
Repeated attempts to start, arming and disarming the immobiliser, resulted in the same symptoms.
I gave up and phoned the RAC but then tried starting it again, having had the ignition on for the few minutes I was on the phone. The car started and so I drove home and didn't need the RAC.
However, at home I tried starting again and hit the same problem and so have given up for the night.
The immobiliser appears to be working OK in that the red light on the dashboard stops flashing before I try to start.
The other possible factor is that it has been pretty warm today - for Scotland - at 28 degrees, although it wasn't that hot when I had the problem.
Anyone come across this problem. It may be the same as the one from Paul McInnes on 25 Jan 2003 "Megane, possible immobiliser fault"
Thanks
Steve

Since writing original message yesterday, the problem seems to have disappeared in that the car now starts.
What I did notice was as follows:
When the car wouldn't start, although the flashing red indicator lamp stopped flashing to show the immobiliser was unarmed the indicator showing a sine wave in a box (second from right on dashboard indicator lamps) stayed constantly on.
When the car was starting this morning that indicator went out when I switched the ignition on so it looks like the problem is whatever that indicator means, which according to the handbook is the immobiliser.
I took the car to Renault after it wouldn't start again. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty ECU (Engine Computer), which they have replaced at a total cost of £557, including labour and VAT, not something I expect at 45K miles, but I had no real choice.
