E300 GJF Reborn.

Unread post by Diabolical »

I bought a CX GTi Turbo2 a year ago mechanically/electrically fantastic previous owner had spent £2000 just on parts, not including 4 new TRX's.

After taking it home I realised at some point a lot of bodging, blowover and touching up had been done to the the body.
I sourced 4 clean doors and O/S/R Quarter that where gone repair.

Following pics.

Car stripped down and ready for work:
Image
Image
Sills removed for new ones, bought from http://www.franzose.de/en/ £99 for a pair 'Graeme' saloon not Safari size..
Image
Rotten Part of O/S/R Quarter removed.
Image
New sills welded on.
Image
O/S inner and outer quarter welded and bonded on.
Image
In garage at home to get heavy waxoyling and change of seats. Orange Mountain Bike in pic STOLEN 2 weeks ago, gutted.
Image
Getting there.
Image
Doors and boot fitted, no external mouldings.
Image
Leather seats and door cards fitted.
Image
JOB DONE :D

\:D/ Very nice resto' and that Cassic Nacre does suit it well!

Good to see some CX resto' going on - will it be at the National? Or the CXM?

Not 100% sure about the fully clean look with no badges but it's good to be individual! :D

Smart! WELL worth all the effort and expense!! Is it that Cx aubegene colour?

Couple of things from the piccies:

Typical Cx handbrake state of adjustment!

Some love and some hate the full chromed handles/door tops/rear screen
surrounds/window bottom trims off a GTi but I must confess I prefer the
matte black plakky originally fitted to the Turbos - just a personal thing!

I see that you too have one of those 99quid Halfords pro socket sets!
Seems a prerequisite for Citroen spannering as I've met/seen many
who have one!!

Is that a Boxer dog in the background? I've met a load of Citroen fans that
own Boxers too - odd. Must be the temperament!!

I thought the car was going to be dark green!? :?

I will be going to CXM Rally on holiday for National.

Cassis Nacre was a last minute decision that I'm glad I made.

I'm not to sure about clean look either, door mouldings are defiantly staying off as for badges Citroen one on now at least.

Couple of things from the piccies:

Typical Cx handbrake state of adjustment! Now adjusted for MOT, Always a pain as we all know.

Some love and some hate the full chromed handles/door tops/rear screen
surrounds/window bottom trims off a GTi but I must confess I prefer the
matte black plakky originally fitted to the Turbos - just a personal thing! I think black plasticky stuff OK on silver and other light colours though much prefer chrome on dark colours.

Is that a Boxer dog in the background? I've met a load of Citroën fans that
own Boxers too - odd. Must be the temperament!! Dog is Chocolate Brown Lab - Border Collie X. 9 Years old with fab temperment.

I thought the car was going to be dark green!? Confused Not surprised so am I :!: Was going to be Nice Xantia Dark green, then changed mind to Lucifer Red, then went back to Green very last minute Cassis Nacre.

I have all the engine bay to do myself now, not looking forward to it, even though car rest is meant to be FUN :?:

Wow! How amazing to see my old car again. I ran E300 GJF between 1997 and 2001 and have extremely fond memories of it, a fantastic car. I've often wondered what happened to it. Now I know! Does anyone have any more up to date information about the car? :-D

Hi, to answer David’s question, yes the car is still going strong. I’ve done about 30,000 miles in the last 6 years, although it’s not done many miles this year due to the virus situation. The car itself is in fine order and now wearing the remanufactured 16” turbo alloys. There was an article on it in Classic & Sportscar magazine last year https://www.classicandsportscar.com/fea ... citroen-cx

Cheers

Thanks for letting me know about the car Marc. I saw the feature in Classic & Sportscar magazine and couldn’t believe it when I realised it was my lovely old CX still going strong! It was quite a shock to see it in a different colour and with different trim but it looks good.

Cheers

PS Do keep me posted about the car. It’s great to know that it’s still going strong and glad you’ve fitted the original turbo alloys, presumably with Michelin TRX tyres? I tried to keep the car as original as possible when I ran it all those years ago.

Well I’m pleased to report the beast lives on - it’s just sailed through its MOT today.

A couple of months ago the petrol tank sprung a drip, which turned out to be a pinhole leak due to rust adjacent to one of the straps. So I took it off, got it cut out and welded up and all’s good.
Cheers
