Edit 02/08-'22
This link seems not to work for some. It has stopped working for me in Firefox, Brave and Chromium, all on Linux Mint. It does seem to work for others if you read down the thread.

Hi I've tried to access the link and I'm afraid I can't open it,,,,,I have the same problem with my newly acquired C5 estate and believe it to be a fault in the rear screen.
Do you know of any repair that can be done to the rear screen element?

Many thanks

The link does work for me.

The repair is a wire which runs around the the glass to replace the broken element in the rear screen. I dont think there is an effective repair for the screen itself, its a new window if you want a proper job.

The repair does work well though and you can't notice if its done well unless your lookinf for it.

Just tried that again and while it doesn't work in Firefox (on Ubuntu Utopic Unicorn) it does work with Chromium.

In the .pdf file (which, btw, is magic and spot on) the first part tells you to remove the tailgate inner trim, which is not quite the two minutes of ecstasy that you imagine it to be: I did my old(er) C5 estate last year as I had to also replace the high-level LED brake light and as I now have to do the window on my new(er) C5, I'd suggest you follow this, literally, two-minute option ...
a) Do you mind drilling a 20mm (minimum) hole in the plastic cowl covering the inner side of the tailgate catch and then blanking it off with a rubber plug coz if you do then this will make you weep.

b) This is a pic of the tailgate window catch area in the lower part of the tailgate:
1) Lower half - window open.jpg
c) ... and now up close so you can see the catch lit up:
2) Lower half - showing catch.jpg
d) ... and now the same view of (b) from the back of the tailgate inside the car with the hole(s) already drilled:
3) Lower half - catch cover from inside.jpg
e) ... close up of (d) with the rear of the catch lit up ...
4) Lower half - catch cover from inside detail.jpg
The hole that you need to drill is the lower of the 2 (I did the other for visibilty) and its centre is very approx 3.5cms up from where the cowl meets the inner trim. Also, if you measure so the cowl is approx 24cms wide, then the centre of the hole is about 13.5-14cms from the left side of the 24cms you started the measurement from.

f) You now need a flat bladed screwdriver ... slide the edge of it between the silver metal link rod and the black bit attached to the white plastic and lever or lift it upwards towards the glass and the solenoid arm that you're lifting will release the catch.

Am I correct in thinking that that plastic trim comes off complete without the glass open. It did on my last 2007 vtx+ that James hellrazor has now so I didn't even need to drill ANY holes at all.. Why on earth advise to drill holes on a panel that is removable unless very lazy. That would not be my way of dooing it.

Can't remember exactly but I think you have to free the top half of the inner trim to get the cowling off ... but I know it was a pain and not obvious. Anyway, I'm scrapping the one in the photograph but keeping the glass as I'd rewired it so thought I'd just contribute an idea ... silly thing to do, I know 🙄
