Espace aux belt

Unread post by Toby_HDi »

Just a quick one really as I'm pretty sure I know the answer...

2003 Espace 2.0 16v. Do the aux belts suffer the same fate as Citroens in that they can come off, wrap around the crank pulley and take the timing belt out?

My parents one has suffered such a fate, aux belt wrapped round the crank pulley (which looks rusty - are they dual mass?) finally extracted the belt after having to cut it but now, when starting, sounds like no compression and the crank pulley isn't turning.

Further investigation reveals a crank pulley in a rusty state but holding up despite being a dual mass affair.

Mainly though, have found the woodruff key for the crankshaft/crank pinion has made a bid for freedom and suceeded. It is gone. This will be why it is spinning but not firing, the timing belt isn't being driven so not operating the valve gear. Certainly sounds like no compression

Looks like there will be some bent valves on this one.
