Clio 1.2 51 plate losing power

Unread post by UserError »

Hello,
I don't know if anyone can help here - any advice gratefully received.

Car falters sometimes. Doesn't conclusively seem to be speed related. Has lost power completely on a few occasions. RAC callout didn't help much - he wiggled some wires "in case", got a code 261 from OBD which "pointed to throttle body". Car restarted ok.

More faltering occasionally, then totally lost power today & had to get onto the verge pronto. Engine still running but accelerator had no effect. Switched it off, wiggled a few wires on top of the engine (ineffectually I suspect). Tried it before calling the RAC & it started & worked. Drove 60 miles with only a bit of faltering later.

This seems a to be an undocumented feature of Clios. I have found many reports on the web, but no solution and much opening of wallets while ECUs or whatever get changed as mechanics guess at the cause - the incidents are often a few years old so I wondered if the cause has now been identified?

I am under pressure to get it booked in, but I need to have an idea that the mechanics know what they are doing & not getting me to pay for miscellaneous guessing.
Cheers
Jonathan
