Laguna 2 Excessive Vibration

Unread post by Jez1965 »

Hi new member here.

My wifes Laguna 2 - 1.8 16v on an 02 plate has developed a severe vibration between 40 & 50mph. Above and below this speed the car is fine.

The vibration can be felt through the seats not the steering or pedals.

S far I have:-

had all 4 wheels balanced

the tracking checked

replaced both drive shafts with used items

replaced the gearbox bottom mounting

the drivers side top engine stabiliser bar

swop each wheel for the spare

the local garage has looked at the car and they cannot solve the problem!!

Can anyone help as I do not know what to do next :?

Might be worth getting a mate to drive along side you on both sides on a dual carriageway at that speed and see if one of the wheels is wobbling.

I had a problem with my 306 where the wishbone bushings were bollocksed and it caused the steering to be a bit wooley and it was quite wobbly at speed.

Get the rear trailing arm bushes looked at,they are very common to wear and fail the MOT.

If your Laguna is of the higher spec veriety with the 17" wheels, they are very well known and easy to bend. They are called chocolate wheels in the trade!

A distored wheel might not show up when being balanced. Worth checking.

Since you cant feel it through the wheel its possibly a rear wheel.

Though you say you have swapped the wheels around ...

However it could also be a driveshaft problem, did the vibration change at all with the replacements fitted?
