My Kangoo has packed up. It's a 1.6 petrol and the problem is a serious knocking sound that sounds like pre ignition or a diesel on a cold morning. It will just about stay running if you hold the throttle down but wont idle at all.
I've been reading about dephasers and been advised about crank sensors going duff. There are no warning lights on the dash and the rev counter works.
I'm not sure if I actually have a dephaser and if I do, how to tell if it's faulty. Any experts out there able to enlighten me?

Turns out the kangoo doesn't have a dephaser, just a regular twin cam set up. It's in the at the local dealer who tell me that the inlet cam pulley has broken causing the cam belt to jump a tooth
Cost for repair will be £710
Knew I should have got a Berlingo......
