Hi folks.
Bit of an issue with the missus' 2005 1.6 manual Grand Scenic.
She was comign across the motorway last night when "check emmissions" came up on the display, along with the service and engine light.
I've searched other forums for similar and came up with things ranging from the coils, plugs and cleanign the flywheel sensor.
I had a drive of it . It seems to be starting fine (tried it about 10 times between last night and today) and driving fine. No misfiring or cylinders not firing. I had it up to 4500 revs so it's not limiting the revs itself.
Any help or advice is much appreciated.
Ste.
EDIT. Just an udate. The missus had the car with a mechanic friend of her fathers, who in turn rnag a guy who is supposedly with a renault dealer who reckons its a clamshell sensor and should cost around €50-60 to get.
However I'm drawing a bit of a blank, so again. if anyone can help it'd be great, cheers.

Right so. After a bit of grilling the missus decided its the camshaft sensor they said (bloody women
) . Bit of a change in that today its started cutting out when the revs are dropping to idle, at traffic lights and the like. I sat in it for a minute and it idled ok, but if I rev it for a second it will struggle every couple of times and it cut out once or twice

Cant help too much with the renault side of things but a few years back had a vectra and ended up replacing the camshaft and crank shaft sensors.that cured the problem for a while but then it turned out it was the idle control valve that was at fault would fire up fne no problem and rev to its max but every so often it would just die or rev to 3000rpm or somewhere between, maybe worth just giving that a clean with carb cleaner assuming its a petrol engine in question

I'm with Colin here.
The latest behaviour is very symtomatic for the idle control valve (ICV).
This is an air valve which admits air to the intake when the engine is running idle.
Its controlled by the engine computer which in turn is constantly monitoring the engine idle revs, trying to keep the idle constant at approx 850rpm.
This is done by varying the air admission from the ICV.
The ICV is prone to stick in the valve mechanism by dirt and will mostly benefit from a simple spray cleaning inside.
They wont normally show wear issues until after 10-15 years in service.

I agree, Get some air intake cleaner and give it a good spraying down the intake pipes with the egine running at around 2500-3000rpm. It should clean any sensors along the intake system and clean our the throttle body, which is probably the best place to spay it into.

Cheers folks, will give it a try.
Engine is 1.6 petrol.
Next thing is picking up air intake cleaner. I assume a decent motor factors will have something? or Halfords? Did some googling and its not returnign muich usefull. Ebay is bringing up stuff for diesels liek this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/air-intake-inlet- ... 7C294%3A50 or carb cleaner http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WYNNS-CARBURETTOR ... 7C294%3A50 .
