Laguna II shark fin

Unread post by sparky33 »

Anyone know why some Lags without Satnav have these fitted?

My car has one, and it's not been retro fitted, and has a lead to it, but no satnav, so what would it be for?

As far as I'm aware the radio aerial is incorporated into the rear screen?

The car probably has been factory prewired for telephone. There was an gsm aerial downlead taped to the radio aerial behind the h/u on my 53 plate Lag Initiale.

Yep, checked with Renault and it did come with a phone kit, apparently my Lag is a Dynamique with optional "sports" pack.

I'd like to see if there is any way I can trace the aerial cable to see if I can connect it to my tomtom.

Could be an interesting exercise, you will need to change the connector to something more standard to work with once you find the cable. Don't fancy having the car kit then?

Is a GSM antenna the suitable length for GPS reception?

No idea. Thinking about it you may be lucky and have both the gps and gsm downleads as I doubt there are two different part nos for Renault shark fins.

The shark fin is used for both (sat nav and phone antenna), but there is only one cable on mine, not sure if it would have two if you had the phone kit and the Carminat.

It looks like the phone kit itself was removed at sometime, the speaker is present (left of the steering column, same one used for the woman that nags on the privilage models)and there is a yellow plug under the gear stick gaitor, this has had three wires cut from the plug and female spades attached to them?

Looks like there are two types of Renault sharkfins then. From what I remember when installing the Renault phone kit in mine, the dash speaker has two sets of connections one for the "nagging" and one for the phone. So what is the verdict on using the gsm downlead with your tom-tom?

I haven't tried to trace the cable as yet, if I do I would need to extend it I'd imagine, as well as change the connection on it, to be honest, I'll probably not bother.

I haven't had a great deal of experience with the portable satnav units but they seem to work fine out of the box. If you need an external aerial then ebay is a good a place as any to find an inexpensive one.

My Tomtom 520T suffers from lag, probably down to the windscreen, the problem with the external Tomtom aerials is you have to feed the cable outside, so the sharkfin would have been ideal.

Found the end of the cable in the dash behind the radio, it has a screw type fit on it.

Also found this plug under the gear gaitor, any ideas? The femle spades are connected to wires cut from the plug.

The car was fitted with a Renault car kit so I'm trying to establish what is and isn't there, the speaker is the two pole and has a whilt plug attached to it.
