1999 clio lost power now won't stat???

hi, this is my first post, so wondering if any1 could provide some advice.
well me dads got a 1999 clio 1.2 and he says the other day he was driving along normally when car just lost power and cut out and now it won't start but its turning over :?:
however, a no he needed his water pump done and was losing water lyk nothing else, but stupidly he kepted driving- just wondering if that may of caused it :?:
any help would be appreciated

It would seem that your piston rings are okay if that's the case. I would be checking your spark plugs, HT leads and coilpack if I were you.

Is the engine management light on?
