Dodgy Washers

Unread post by nik10850_0 »

Hi all :D

I just bought my lovely clio RN, T reg '99, and it is perfect, except for one very slightly annoying problem, the front washer works great, pull leaver back wipers wipe nd squirts water on window, but if i use the rear washer switch the wiper works fine, but the washer also squirts the front window :? any ideas?

Check if your washer reservoir is common to both front and rear. Then the washer pump is most likely also a single combination type with a build in selector valve.
Usually these small washer pumps are not serviceable, only a new unit may cure the problem.

Thank You For Your Relpy :D

I had a look under the bonnet this moring and its doesn't look like its easy access, just at first glance it looks like you've got to take the stripe of plastic off that runs along the bottom of the windscreen, and underneath the wipers.

Is this the case or am i being stupid? :oops: Its just so i can give myself enough time to do the job.

Thank You :lol:

Similar problem in reverse (more annoying GRRR!) Select front wash and water from rear, select rear works fine. If you sorted yours was it the pump.

Any help appreciated..

Hi TT;

I haven't managed to get the time to get it sorted, but I've spoken to a few people about it and have all come up with the same idea, the selector valve in water pump. I've looked online for NEW part at around £10-£15, but might get one cheaper at scrap. It looks like a simple job but will take a while as you have to take the plastic off from under the windscreen, which also means taking the wipers off. :roll:

:idea: I suppose what you could do just to keep you going for now, is swap the two pipes so that the water goes to the front instead of the back.

I haven't looked to see if the valve is completely broken or just stuck, and can be loosened.

Let me know if you have any luck

Nik :D
