Scenic Steering Wheel Vibrations @ 60 - 70 mph

Unread post by will689 »

Hi, I have searched the forum and can't find any answers so here goes.

My wife has a 51 plate Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 Dynamique +, it passed it's MoT in March 08.

We have had it for almost a year but upon travelling to Devon on holiday last week I discovered that the steering wheel has begun to vibrate at intervals when you get to approx 62 mph.

At approx 62 mph it vibrates for 3 seconds then it stops for 3 seconds, then vibrates for 3 seconds.......and so on.

At approx 70 mph it vibrates for 4 seconds, then stops for 2 seconds then vibrates for 4 seconds.....and so on.

I wasn't driving on the dotted white line, nor was it changes in the road surface, as it did it for the whole journey (210 miles) on rough and smooth motorway surfaces.

I had a front tyre changed two days before we left but I would have thought the vibration would have been constant if the wheel had been balanced incorrectly etc..?

Any thoughts as to what could cause this before I start dismantling the car piece by piece?

Cheers

Steve

I second that.
Might be that simple you have lost one of the small balancing weights from one wheel.
