Megane Scenic Gear Selection Problem!

This fault is on a Megane Scenic where the car cannot now select reverse!

I have previously driven this car, and it was O.K.

Looking under the bonnet I can see that the selector mechanism at the gearbox end is under the car.

I checked under the gaiter, and can see that there is a wire which is operated by the mechanism, that you operate to select reverse gear. I.E the collar that you pull on when you select reverse.

So is there a common problem with this, and a known fix to sort it out ?

The car is on 02 plate with the 1.9 litre diesel engine, and has a manual gearbox.

It turns out that this was an internal fault with the gearbox, and the mate who owns the car had to have the box apart!
