Megane tailgate hinge broken

Megane tailgate hinge broken

Renault Megane hatchback that has one of the tailgate hinges broken. Not easy to look at what has failed becaue of the weight of the tailgate and the obvious instability, but it looks to me like a rod that goes through both parts of the hinge that has snapped, leaving the centre rod intact and two stubs either side.

Cannot see any threads at all either end of the rod and it also looks to me like the hinge brackets themselves are welded to the tailgate and body shell :( Am I missing something here? Like I said, it's a tricky job investigating what's happened and if there are bolts to be undone, or I have to drive a new rod through, then I only want to open the tailgate ONCE to complete the job :)
