Laguna pas fluid loss.....advice needed

Unread post by pistonbroke »

Hi Guys got a problem with PAS fluid leak on my n reg 2ltr Laguna, it seems to be leaking hydraulic fluid underneath somewhere around the gearbox area and causing noisy steering when low, can anyone tell me where it is likely to be leaking and is it repairable. Help appreciated Dave

I know nowt on a Laguna. But it sounds like a pretty ordinary pipe/hose leak problem - i.e. you need to replace it. Could be a seal - but these dont usually pack up just like that - even on Renaults.

The problem with the powersteering is evidently caused by lack of fluid because of the leak - and possibly air in the system.

There are no easy shortcuts on this problem. Eventually you will suddenly not be able to steer the car if just ignoring the problem.

Hi Anders
Thanks for the reply, problem was a worn through pipe caused by a corroded securing bracket, I fixed the pipe with "Quicksteel" epoxy repair putty ( as used by the AA apparantly), saved me renewing the pipe. Regards Dave

Just bought an older Scenic, same problem at first glance. Will post revelations when I get around to sort it.
When cold, noisy slurpy steering. Shudders a bit. Opened bottle today, shock, empty. Looked for leak - nothing at first sight and then bingo, nearside servo steering actuator side looks pretty wet and the boot is gradually slipping off as well. Hope it is not something more serious e.g. actuator out or so...

Hi mpdevice, that post was 7 years old but the repair on the pipe with quicksteel lasted the two remaining years of the life of the car, it's in the scrapyard in the sky now, so if it is a pipe leaking give it a try, it is a permanent fix and i've used the stuff on loads of other things. i can't recommend it enough, and much easier that replacement pipes. OK, thanks Dave for the advice, need to find the reason first and dependent on accessibility I might give it a try!
