Engine Mount....

Unread post by TazzyK »

After four years and 45,000 miles of ownership (currently 138,000 miles), the Laguna 1.8RT (1997 'P') has proved to be a wonderful car.
My only concern is that today, one of the engine mounts apparently came undone and the engine dropped on one side (the mount just below the coolant reservoir). I say apparently because the mount did not break, rather I found the nut resting on the gearbox. Has this happened to anybody before? Is this common or just my luck? Just got the car home, gonna loctite the bolt when I come back from work tomorrow (no I aint gonna drive it!)

it hasnt recently had a timing belt has it? as the mount has to be removed to fit one.

I replaced my engine mounts a couple of months ago. I'm puzzled how the nut could've worked it's way loose, unless someone had undone it and not tightened it properly. As for cambelt changes, it's the engine mount on the other side of the engine that has to be removed, not the gearbox mount, so that rules that theory out..

i had exactly the same problem with a really nice 1.9 d clio that i bought for the wife.any time she took a right hand bend there was a strange cv joint knock!!! but no,after various bushes and ball joints replaced and an eventual drive shaft replacement (cv joint all one piece) i found the cause ,(to much expense) top engine mount had gone and was rubbing on inner wing.god you could have sworn it was a cv noise!!!!

As Bwellard said, the cambelt is on the other side and anyway it was done 3 years ago!
