Hi all
I have a 1.8 RT Laguna 8v (Not a 16v) Red. Over the past few weeks when i am driving in first, second and sometimes first gear the speed dial is bouncying up and down. At higher speeds like on the motorway the speed dial is fine.
I have also noticed that when starting up in the morning and its cold weather outside there is a squeal noise for about 5-10min.
Now over the past 2 days when i am pulling away from a junction the car seems very sluggish when applying the accelerator and i notice that even in high gear the car still seems to be a little sluggish and the car does not feel the same when driving. Also one day i stopped the car out side my home and when i took my foot off the gas and the rev counter went to just below 1 the rev counter bounced up and down a little and the car was reving a little on its own.
I have check the engine oil level and the only item i have added or changed to the car is a new Sony CD Player which i dont think could be causing the probleme. or could something like a new cd player do something like this to the car.
I dont know when the car was lasted serviced or had a cambelt change so its allready booked in for friday this week for a new cambelt and a service.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the probleme would be, If so can someone reply as soon as possible as i would like to know what it could be before i take the car in and ask someone to look at the problemes. Could it be because the car has not had a cambelt change for sometime or a service.
Many Thanks
Chris B

For the speedo cable problem, the inner cable (the one that actually turns as you are going along) is usually made up of long thin strands of wire wound together. If one of the strands breaks, it 'catches' or 'drags' on the inside of the plastic covering. This will affect the speedo reading at lowish speeds (up to say 30mph), but as you speed up (say 40/50mph and above) it is spinning so fast inside the plastic outer that it doesn't affect the reading. Sounds like you need a new cable.
As already said, squeal noise sounds like an aux belt (fanbelt).
Sluggishness could be down to idle control valve, as mentioned.
Outside bet is clutch slip, which would give you a squeal and poor performance, but as you change gear rather than when it's first started up.
