Tyre question for NEW Megane Coupe/Cabrio Diesel

Unread post by bikeboyz »

Hi,
Does anybody have a Megane Couple Cabriolet (new model folding roof). Ours have worn out its front tyres in just under 13,000 miles. Is this normal level of wear. Its all even wear, so no suspect problem with the car.
The tyres are the original supplied from the Renault factory, Continential Sport Contact 2.
Help! Is the fuel saving on this DI going to be spent on tyres making it more expensive :-(

I know it's not the same but, a few years back when the New Astra was new the wife had a Convertible. The tyres on it were again as per the factory and really only rubber bands. But they wore out in 12 months (11.5K) and at £170 per corner a cheaper alternative was soon found. Again the same with a new Astra Coupe Turbo and a 2 year old Ford Focus. I think that the factory or even main dealer fit tyres are possibly not as hard wearing, but in the real world you always go for the best but cheapest. Currently the Reno Megane Pase 2 is on a set of Goodyears that have done 18K but will need changing in the next 6 months or so.
