I have recently bought a scenic (R Reg) with problems with the autobox. The symptoms are that it will drive fine for a one to two hundred yards then loose all drive. If you then stop and wait a minute the drive will return and repeat what has just happened. The engine is a 2 litre eight valve OHC and the gearbox is the slightly later one that there is no sump that I can take off to clean the oil strainer.
My questions are:
Does any one know if this could be something easy to fix (Ha! Ha! an optimist I hear you say...)
If this is going to be expensive and I am then looking at a replacement box, I figure that my chances of getting a good manual box is better than a good auto box. That said, has anyone experience of changing from auto to manual on this vehicle, ( I have done it a couple of times on Range Rovers)and which gearboxes are compatible with my engine / driveshafts.
