OK, I just took the seat out :)....and yes, reclining would of been easier :(

OK, I have both wheels off, cannot work out how to turn the 19mm cable adjuster nut on the caliper end as it just rotates the whole sleeve (on both sides), there is not a locking nut so does that mean I have to grip the metal collar on the end or the sleeve with mole grips ?

atm....handbrake needs to be on 5-7 clicks to hold the car....

Hold on a moment, handbrakes aren't adjusted at the lever end, they're adjusted at the caliper end... No need to have the console out for just that.. Hope there was another reason [-o<

5-7 clicks is a tad marginal. Depends on the MOT tester. Having said that, don't go too far the other way. I'd look at 4 for hard-on...

Before you do anything, press the brake pedal to the floor (engine on of course....) 5 or 6 times. Might just need the internals adjusting up. If the cables are old, then chances are you will not be able to free the adjusters. You will need to clean the threads, then plus gas, then pair of spanners to break the lock, then hold the cable (gas pliers?) whilst you turn the nut.

can you get the end of the cable out of the caliper hook? if so, get some mole grips on the metal part AFTER the thread that the cable comes out of, and then go nuts with the plusgas and spanners. for mine I had to jam the molegrips against the strut and cracked the smaller locknut off, then try to free the larger nut off. if theres not a chance of doing that you'd have to try and hold the cable further up, but you run the risk of damaging the threads or the sheath that runs over it.

for adjusting it (on the side i could do at least!) what I did was wind them back up the thread so theres enough spare cable to get it back into the hook easily, then pull the cable end so the nuts are resting against the hub. tighten the larger one up and when you've got just a smidge of free-play in the cable, do the lock nut up :)

mine now comes on nice and tight after 2 clicks

save them, add them to mine then collect them from a few more people on the forum, over a year we could end up with a C1 vtr :)
