I was out in the MX3 yesterday and I had to fill up. I have owned the car for over 2 years now and so I was fully aware of the issue I encountered because I have encountered it every time I've filled up since getting the car and every time I said to myself, "I must sort that out!". Well (pause for fanfare.............) today was the day. Here is the fuel filler:

Nothing wrong with that you may think until I tell you that I took that picture after I had pulled the flap release. Every time I have had to prise the flap open with a coin as the spring on the catch was not strong enough to overcome the friction resistance which has built up in the hinge. Once open it doesn't need Sherlock Holmes to see the problem:

It is, and always has been, caked in crap!!

So after just two minutes with my waterless car wash, suitably diluted with water, and a microfibre cloth this was the result:

- Own work
A quick application of machine oil to the hinge itself and now it works a treat !!!
Definitely a "Why didn't I do that after the first time I had trouble with it?" moment!!
Answer "I always forgot after getting home!!" Sorted now and well chuffed, it pops out perfectly as soon as I pull the lever!!
