Hello Xac,
I know it may sound trite, but I am glad to be wrong. Anything that eases the pain even slightly must help.
I don't know if you read my second post. If you can celebrate her life it may help with an idea I have to help Poppy to know her Mummy. If you can ask everybody who knew her to write down all their memories of Jo (and provide copies of pictures) you could write an album to let her have so she can get to know her Mummy. Don't hold back anything; everybody has faults and made mistakes; let Poppy know her real Mummy, not an idealised Mummy.
I don't know if this is any help at all. If it isn't, tell me to shut up; I won't be offended.
My thoughts are with you all at this saddest of times.
James

Re: The importance of family
We're going to be going through the photo albums probably next week. I want to scan them all anyway so they are backed up online.

Re: The importance of family
This is a really good idea, and my mum has done this with all our old photos from when we were kids. She's also found loads of my grandparents, and their parents and grandparents, which have all been blown up/photoshopped/fiddled with and backed up online. I think it's essential. She managed to blow up some litte 2"x2" pics of my gran's parents for her to A4 size. Amazing really..Xac wrote:We're going to be going through the photo albums probably next week. Re: The importance of family
We had Jo's cremation yesterday, her god daughter read out a lovely poem she had written, and there were so many of Jo's friends there.
I've just found out from mum that Jo helped 4 other people, with her kidneys, liver and lungs.

Hello Xac,
Even at this saddest of times, it must be helping the family to know Jo has changed the lives of others for the better; those who received her organs, and the families who still have their loved ones.
I don't know how to wish you and yours a Happy Christmas in these circumstances, but if I did I would.
James
PS If you are putting the photos onto DVD, re-do them every few years. The ink in DVDs degrades over time (last time I read about this, it was believed to be 5 years depending on storage), so it would be good to re-do them every 4 years. Use a backup HDD as well; you cannot have too many backups.

Re: The importance of family
I would also do an online backup or two. My pictures (all 17,850 of them) are backed up on both Google and Skydrive. I don't imagine either of those two companies going under and losing it in my lifetime.Hell Razor5543 wrote:

DVDs are rubbish, and hard drives get lost.. Don't ask me how I know this.

Re: The importance of family
Thanks guys.
I've got a pro flickr account so I'll be uploading them to there, my Google drive, as well as an external hard drive or two. Basically I'll be making sure we have multiple backups.

Re: The importance of family
This members area section hasn't shown up on previous visits (it's in a drop down menu at the bottom, but I realise I haven't checked much), so I've only just read this for the first time
What a dreadful shock for you all.

Re: The importance of family
I've just seen the letter regarding Jo's organs, dated 6th December.
One kidney went to a little girl who post operation didn't need any dialysis and was expected to be sent home a few days later.
The other kidney went to a woman in her 50's who'd been waiting 54 months. She needed some dialysis still but the kidney was slowly starting to work.
Her liver went to a man in his 20's who had been waiting 655 days. He was doing well on the ward.
Her lungs went to another man in in his 20's who had been waiting 7.5 months. He'd been moved from ICU to the ward and was doing well.
Hopefully they've all been discharged and are celebrating Xmas with their families.
