Well I got the Rad out last night.....the bottom 5th was full of mud blocking the fins, the things you find :)

The Vice is great, with the Anvil end and the ability to rotate I am sure it will come in very handy....but where to bolt it to ?
Ahhhhhh.......... the smell of a new vice

More work today.

Popped down to FraudFords to get a new set of Alen Keys and bumped into a Mobile Air-Con guy in the car park....anyway for a Tenner he stopped by on his way home and emptied the gas....result.
Anyway that allowed me to get on with the Air Con Rad and pipes, started exhaust, various BSI etc removed and gloved in bags. And Yes, some corrosion on the connectors.

So V6 owners, how well does your car suck ??
Image

And how well does it Blow ??

note the BIG restriction here, very poor.

Stripping goes on...all cleaned up as I go....so much crap from the low area of the rad, VERY much an area to look at when cleaning the car.

a leak discovered..

That air intake hose is a real problem Sticky and you have to be so careful refitting the airbox to make sure it's all tickitty-boo

That split in the hydraulic return pipe is very common too... It can let go suddenly and dump all LHM and strand you..

As happened to my V6 last year in my nemesis town of Bicester

An event that precipitated me getting a C1...

I bet that split is the main cause of the LHM volume loss on this car then. I can see myself making a few modifications as I go on (whatever) I end up actually rebuilding.
Stripping, cleaning and prepping is hell when you have yet to get a car to put it all on :)

Looks like I will be off to France on Tuesday night/Wed............ohhh lala

Well that's it.....I have done the following

I have Booked the Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen as a foot passenger
I have Booked a Fiat500 for a trip "down south a little"
I have booked the Ferry with a Car for the return (call me a optimist)
I have booked the rental car for return to Caen (call me a Pessimist)
I have withdrawn Euros
I have agreed a "subject to" price with a nice French Citroen owner.....(call me hopeful)

Vice: I've got one like that - the rotational element is useful, and not, in equal measures! You can't get it tight enough not to rotate if you apply some serious torque (threaded wheel bearing puller for example.... ), so it rotates to the stop at about 45deg, which then means the handle fouls the bench which is a bit of a PITA for getting stuff in and out, but you can live with it. I welded up a square of 2" angle and bolted the vice down through that through the bench top, then put a bit of 4x2 right under the edge of the bench to hold it up. Never checked the bench attachment to the wall, but I haven't manged to pull it off yet

Fiat 500: I woudln't mourn the loss if you don't get one. I had one when I was doing the turbo on te C4 last year. I was underwhelmed to say the least. It just seemed wrong to me somehow. The stalk controls are masssive and out of all proportion, and the gear change is heavy and bulky. And the ride is bouncccccyyyyyy!!! Very overrated if you ask me, no idea what all the fuss is about!

Ahh, so the Corsa might be the better option then...

Looking forward to sticking my head out of the roof and sitting in the back seat for 3 hours......

Man this is a close run trip........problems today

They misread the "controll techique" and tell me just before lunch I cannot insure a car in France without a valid one.
French go to lunch for 1.5 hours, late back...PANIC
Call seller....WHY did you tell me all was OK and it is not ?? "yes, you hve no Ci !, but it is OK to drive...WTF ?? ", I give up and get him to call company direct.
Oh sorry, we made an error....all is OK now.....PS, we forgot to tell you, a 4% card charge has been added.....

take a breath now......
