Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
When I worked at the local TV shop in Petts Wood I would just drive up to the shop and park outside, double yellow lines now and a bus route.

MMmm well put it this way I can almost touch 60 with my little finger...…..Gibbo2286 wrote: 25 Jan 2022, 16:41 You must be one of the younger ones Chris, when I was a lad nobody in our street had a car.![]()

There where not that many and certainly not a car for each family member as well as "for fun" weekend cars people seem to have now as well, we have gone from normal cars to Estate cars to SUV's and now every one wants a van, I live on a 1970's estate, roads are rather narrow so you squeeze past these vans now parked half on pavement, cause that's my other whinge nobody thinks about other road users anymore that's gone into the past along with points and dizzies so Van man now parks opposite the other van man causing a blockage, in the words of Victor Meldrew " I don't believe it"

Just Remember;Where ever you go, There you are !

Don't they still have them then, haven't been on a bus since the '60s except at Beamish.

In the pass the time on a car journey, the old A to Z spotting game, (number plates, roadside signs, shops, haulage firms etc) could get stuck at Q, so the ReQuest bus stop was always something to look out for to move on in the game!

Never noticed one of those Mick. I keep seeing pictures of the London Underground with ticket machines listing stations for 1/- and another for 1/6d, I'm told they are not like that now. They were when I worked in London in 1954. I also hear that all the bomb damaged houses have been rebuilt in Cheapside now.

I knew a man who could, Bill Bolton at the shop, knew those inside out but that was in the '50s. Watch out for the 400v HT line, 2x PZ30, and 25Kv from the Tripler circuit sealed in a sardine tin - or similar.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I used to love going to the Lyons Teahouse in Watford High Street. They used to have the first 15 feet of the narrowish entrance lined with jars of coffee beans and the wonderful aroma of coffee being ground and roasted used to permeate outside the shop and entice passers by inside. Mum used to treat me to a milkshake and a cake or doughnut when she had dragged me round the high street carrying her shopping for her. I guess it was when I was 9-11 ish as I first heard Love Me Do on the radio in the TV shop next door!!

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
The main Co-Op in Whitby was like that, huge coffee grinders, the aroma was euphoric when I was a kid (1950's).mickthemaverick wrote: 18 Mar 2022, 22:16 I used to love going to the Lyons Teahouse in Watford High Street. The little Co-Op on our street had one too. And a dairy on the main drag.
They all disappeared. The only such ones I have seen were in the Bigg market in Newcastle about twenty years ago.
