.zip attachments not allowed anymore?

Unread post by the-termin8r »

I was just going back over an old thread of mine looking for info and noticed that an attachment I'd added said that the zip extension has been deactivated. Went to check on several other of my threads and they're showing the same thing. Is this a bug or a change to forum rules I've missed?

It is a change of policy because of the risk that our moderation team might miss undesirable or dangerous content disguised as a zip file.

If a user has a file that they feel should be published on the forum, they can contact us using the link at the bottom of the page and we can manually upload it to our resources area.

That's a shame, a lot of threads are going to be retroactively kneecapped. Oh well, I'll just link my G-drive in my own threads.

It is a shame Rob I agree, but the new online safety legislation has put extra potential peril on the forum's admin team and it is a way of helping to protect the FCF as a whole.

I definitely understand your standpoint, I'm not arguing that. It just sucks in general that it's had to end this way.

It looks like there have been 51 .zip file attachments previously posted to the forum, of which 6 are yours. We can discuss what to do with them.

If it's possible to just re-instate mine I'd appreciate it, but if not I have no issue just updating my relevant threads with G-drive links.

Do these ZIPs contain files other than PDFs? AFAIK PDFs are still ok to upload.

They're a mix of STLs, IGESs, PDFs and JPEGs. It's all the 3D printed designs I've published and accompanying photos and instructions.

Unfortunately the forum software doesn't allow the assignment of posting attachments of a certain type to specific users or groups. it is available to all users or nobody.

I will put this into my list of possible software upgrades, but it is a way down the list.
