Apart from the blokes gift to talk and not breathe this was a good information video indeed

Update rear shocks .,ive braved the cold and got one side completed so just off side rear left to do, I got to a point where it was time vs cold and honestly both would of beat me at some point, the new deep e16 socket worked a treat and plenty of plus gas spray. Just one side left and I will see how tomorrow is.

I haven't got one, but saw them and was intrigued a while back. The problem to me is the minimum height: 11" (280 mm) is rather tall, wouldn't get it under the sill of any of the cars here from memory - I did check at the time and ruled them out

Oh man that's some painful learning Jim! The sting from the hindsight would be as severe as the low temps!CitroJim wrote: 25 Dec 2025, 05:12Speaking of working on cars in the cold... Memorably, doing a Peugeot 405 water pump in the snow... I swapped the cambelt a week or so previously when it was warmer. Did not replace the water pump... Big mistakeHuskyxantia wrote: 23 Dec 2025, 12:39oh and I'd say to my younger self don't by a car called a c3 picasso when you get older![]()

Swapping injection pump on previous XUD 306, we had the car "half in" my parents single garage (like me, he's long had the "too much accumulated stuff" problem preventing the car actually in and door closed....) I think with the calor gas heater on we got the garage up to the heady highs of +2°C. I didn't mind the job but dear me it was cold.
As others have described "need it for work on Monday" is the driver, no backup plan.
"Thank goodness for COVID-19" to an extent, it proved working from home could be more than "thinly veiled skiving off" which had been the overarching view till then.

Had an escort mk 3 estate 1.1 in 1999,the back spring snapped while going to pick up a new pair ( mot chap said to get a new pair as mine looked like they were on there last legs) so with tools in the car and now with parts on me , me and my old mate pulled into a country park mid winter hard ice on the ground and we both swapped them out , cold as heck it was , cold metal is something to work with lol, plus side this country park did a wonderful home made veg soup and fresh baked bread from a small food outlet, nice couple of them and few cups a tea each we went like the clappers , job turned out good too just the cold went right to your bones

Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
Back in the eighties my mate and I were regular marshals on the RAC Rally and one year I packed our gear in my RS2000 and took my bottle jack instead of the cars scissor one which I felt was a bit dicey. I checked it went under the car at both ends and popped it in the boot. We found ourselves on a stage junction in Kielder Forest and I had to park the car down the side track clear of the actual stage. After most of the competitors had gone through I went back to the car to get the flask and saw that the offside rear tyre was flat. Silly me had checked the jack went under the car on tarmac with all the wheels inflated. On the mud track with a flat tyre we had no chance!! We had to wait for the course closing car to come round and then got the crew to help me lift the corner while my mate slid the jack under. With the wheel changed I lowered it down but there wasn't quite enough clearance, due to settling in the mud, to tip the jack and pull it out so I had to 'drive off' it, tipping it as I went, to be recovered before we set off to get to our next post!! Never made that mistake again!

I may have a pic or two Husky but I'll have to go and dig in the loft to find them. Read a book in the meantime, War and Peace might be good

I have been through the stored pics but no sign of my ones from the 70s and 80s so I've created this lookalike to give an idea!!

Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
35 mins and side two of the rear shocks completely done . I can confirm the one on my rear was no good when I got it out of its housing and pushed it down I could of pushed it with one finger ! The bottom E16 bolt made some wonderful screaming sounds when being undone but I wasn't going to listen to it scream and cry , 5 kids from many yr ago was my training on the crying front , miss em
..... oh well change of subject, so I've tighten the bolts and nuts to what one of the videos say , 90 and 60 nm just over so there ok , my side back end didn't take as long as the passenger rear , thank god I washed the rear end the other week as that did make things better no dirt in the eyes or mouth, also both back inner arches are all stone chipped now so thats a bonus too. Now I can take it easy for the rest of the day as all my other chores are done.,all to do in a while is go pick up my lovely wife and then I can feel what the car will be like with these new shocks on the back
