That is very satisfying as one of the 'check the starter' protagonists. Have you a plan for the dead one Matt? :)

Ha ha, you can take all the credit folks :P

Probably a dissection see if I can understand what's wrong with it.
If anyone is keen and eager to do that in my behalf, do give me a shout!

Just having a research as to if there's any point - I think Lucas has become a "EuroCarParts brand" and seem to remember they are sometimes VERY cheap.

Searching on part number LRS02100 suggests it's about £100 worth (so is more than I'd guess) I've not found the solenoid listed separately as yet.

Was only meaning in jest to be honest, but I can look at posting it.
Give it a wipe though - is that necessary? None of the second hand parts sellers I have bought stuff from appear to think so! :rofl2:

Halfords trade suggests Lucas starter motors:
1.4 kW = £80.55
1.9 kW = £102.51

No part number details though, so am not sure if either maps directly to what I've just removed.

I had that in mind when I asked if you had a plan! The reason for wiping is to stop any smells in the post!! Happy to see if it can at least come back to you as a useable spare for the shelf. Us retired chaps need things to keeep us busy!! :rofl2:

Pleased the root cause is found Matt :D I know the pain of a rear-mounted starter from the AX and its TU engine... Not pleased to hear the DV6 is the same

At least you'll have a BGPA in stock if you should ever need one - which you won't now you have one ;)

And we. Did it at the first interview by reading the value of resistors from their colour codes. Fail that and game over. It also proved a little electronics knowledge to the interview board too :)

Absolutely :) I have form on these exact starters ;) Beware the flying springs

The design has changed little since the AX.

Thanks both.

Still pondering - I realised that despite having the meter to hand, I didn't read resistance across the solenoid - I'd think that open circuit if the solenoid coil is dead.

Quick look for "Peugeot starter solenoid" on eBay does bring up new units in £25-£45 range (if various types so would need to strip down this one to confirm)

DV6 starter is in the rear above the long driveshaft, not actually "played" with a TU much (coil packs and some brake jobs on a mate's wife/then girlfriend 's Saxo only I think)

DV6 starter:

On the back is probably lesser if two evils as round the front it'd be in amongst the exhaust - DPF etc coming down front of the block (and DPF is a bit of a pig to get out)
But starter above driveshaft makes it a "reach OR see, not both" task. Getting the motor off wasn't too bad, but I remember holding it up and trying to get the bolts to engage to support it was awkward.

Given the positive result, I've treated it to another 12 months' road tax (£20!) this morning too. :)

Good work, Matt

I gave up on the starter on my 307 DV6 - just couldn't get on the top bolt. It wasn't totally failed, but sometimes took 3 or 4 key cycles to get it to crank. I guess if it was totally broken, I would have figured out a way to get it out  I think it would be easier with the drive shaft out....

Very much what Sarah's DV6 206 starter was doing. Sometimes: started fine, sometimes: nowt!

Distinctly "sticky"

Second hand starter was about £20 including delivery - stripped down and greased up before fitting. I could of stripped down and regressed the existing one - but the prospect of putting it back and finding it no better? Frightening!

I can't recall what else was in the way but I did decide it wasn't worth draining gearbox oil and pulling the shaft out. But oh my! The swearing, not end to it! (But defeated it in the end, so all good)
Quarter inch ratchet and patience of a saint :-D
