I like the Herald, super clean, I doubt thee 11k mileage is correct though.
Unusual to see one rust free, I wonder if the underside is as good, I must have spent hundreds of hours under Heralds with the welding kit replacing rotted out chassis outriggers and sills.

One other thing the listings all say +VAT, that should not be the case on used cars, there was a special used car scheme where traders paid VAT on the margin between their buying and selling prices but it was not added to the retail price and could not be reclaimed by the buyer as was the case with commercial vehicles.

That registration number doesn't look right to me. My mother had a Triumph 12/50 on an E reg and the following year the 13/60 with the half Vitesse slanted headlamps was introduced. So all Heralds from F reg on should be 13/60s.

You're getting lazy Paul!! :-D Looking down the listing you will find:

"This car was originally bought in Jersey by an army officer who then transferred to the Isle of Wight, hence the different registration (have certificate of this). The person I bought from trained as a mechanic at the Triumph factory."

which I believe resolves your puzzlement? :-D

To a certain extent, yes. However I was under the impression that you weren't allowed to put a registration number on a vehicle that made it appear younger than it actually is.

Some years ago I had a friend who imported a LHD MG Maestro, converted it to RHD and then put it in for a UK reg. He faffed around with the details a bit trying to get a slightly later reg but the DVLA were having none of it and then slapped a Q reg on it to teach him a lesson!

Yes I think that is right now Paul but I just wonder if back in 1971 when the soldier brought it from Jersey it may have not been the case. Also the fact that it was previously registered in a British Crown Dependancy may have affected the rules! :-D

I had a school ma'am customer with a 2CV, she lived at the top of the village, every two or three weeks she couldn't start the damned thing and rolled it down to my garage for help, we never did sort out the problem despite hours spent checking all things fuel and electrics.

I've had to talk myself out of bidding on this. I like the rarity of the car and it's an Alfa auto!! However spares must be an issue and 6 carbs is not exactly my idea of easy tuning!! Not to mention the metric speedo and the rather unusual layout of the switchgear in front of the guages and possibly accessed in some cases through the steering wheel! The clincher for me though was what I believe to be the odd looking, maybe overlong, boot?

Yep, one very awesome car but I have to agree about the boot. Those carbs would likely be a weekly job!

I bought and sold one of those, can't remember thinking anything strange about the boot. It came through the auction several weeks on the trot with no bidders, I used to buy all those 'odd balls', i put it on my patch and sold it the next day to an Italian man from the next village, he said it was the car the Italian presidents used.
