Many thanks PaulC5 for your input. It has has answerer my question as I was concerned that with it being lefy open to the elements, but I can see where it may lead as a locating dowel during assembly. Regards and thanks for your efforts.

I had a look at our 308 1.5 hdi and it has a couple of similar looking holes about 2 cm deep at the gear box end which go through the cam carrier/cover. No idea what they are for but a possible guess they may be used for locating dowels when assembling or maybe other versions of the engine have something fastened there.

I've just looked at mine and you are absolutely right Paul, it's a locating dowel for the top half of the cambox housing...

When you get the state pension it is paid in arrears and the first one is for about 2 weeks and then every 4 weeks. With tax allowances not going up if you have any other income you will be paying tax on it so your tax code will drop a lot to make sure they take any tax due from your other income.

I've had friends who are just a little older than me and in a similar financial position saying just that... The view is that it's pointless paying us a pension as it just bounces straight back to the government coffers I'm sure it's not that really bad but it does seem a bit of giveth with one hand and taketh with the other...

Ahh well, in just nine years I can benefit from a free TV licence so that's something to look forward to

Not wanting to upset you, but free tv licences changed recently so to get one you have to be over 75 and be on pension credit so most people will never get one. So with losing the winter fuel allowance, losing free tv licences, pension rises being taxed so for pensions started after 2016, the next 4.1% rise is actually 3.2% and less than inflation when set, the government are gradually reducing pensioners' benefits/income. However, having written this, once you start getting the state pension if already retired, it does make a big difference.

You are allowed to ask for the payments to be weekly. This means you're only ever one week in arrears. They don't publicise this, you have to ask.

I believe that you can ask for this even if you're currently being paid monthly.
