C3 Blower Problem!

Unread post by Hebby »

Ok had my C3 for 2 years now and im the 2nd owner from new and a few days ago had the cold air setting on to blow cold air not aircon just cold and was listening to music when i noticed a vibrating on my leg coming from the dash so pulled up turned music off and noticed the blower making a vibrating noise sort of like a hammer drill but not as loud.
when its on setting 1 its not that noticable but the further you go up IE 2-3-4 the louder it gets and the more vibration there is.

Me personally think maybe a blade from the fan has snapped off but im not 100% so here i am on my first post asking this question.

So does anyone have any ideas on what it is?

Could be leaves or other debris sucked in, although not quite the time of year for that but I imagine your original assessment of a broken blade or support strut to be the more likely reason.
I don't know how difficult it might be to remove the fan unit for examination but can't imagine it being that hard.

Hmm, looks like the blower is mounted in the front of the heater box up against the bulkhead. Access probably via the (removed  ) glovebox.... You might be able to reach down the inlet trunk and have a feel, my guess would be it's seizing up, very unlikely to have thrown a blade given the type of unit.

Could be a cherry seed as I park my car under a cherry tree and could also be a leaf :?

Think ill park my car later and have a see how easy it is to access the unit :(

How often do you change the pollen filter?

Would love to know if this one was ever solved. I had this all of a sudden. It's been fine since I've had the car and then suddenly started making the vibration noise. Sounds like something is trapped in the fan blades or something. If I run the fan slowly, I can hear something hitting/flapping against something, then When it speeds up it sounds like a hammer drill as Hebby suggests.
I was going to try and locate the fan and change the pollen filter as a good first measure, but throught I'd ask since the original post is almost exactly what I've experienced so maybe this is something that is common.

many thanks

I managed to sort this one out on my car in the end, I followed the instructions below to gain access to the blower motor.
viewtopic.php?t=70634

I wasn't able to get the motor out since it's pretty tight in there. However, I was able to get it out far enough to see that there was a leaf caught in the blades of the fan. Once I got a pair of tweezers in there, I was Able to pluck out the offending leaf and resolve the issue :)
