ping sound

Hi My Citroen xsara picasso 2008 diesel has started to ping now and then when starting the car, any advice please.

Could be the battery voltage is low, we had a 2003 C3 that would do this on starting and a new battery stopped it. Before the first start of the day check the battery voltage, should be about 12.7 volts if fully charged but below about 12.5 and it needs charging.

It does sound a bit slow when cranking? Does it still do it if you have another car connected with jump leads?
