Didn't think I'd be back so soon, but '"The best laid plans...." strike again. Still have not taken delivery of my '98 306 Cabrio, despite all promises. Ready to pull the trigger, and take her home last Thursday, after the Seller was done washing and making her presentable. Then I get a call: There's a fuel leak under the car that needs to be addressed. Thankfully, my mechanic's shop is actually right next door, so I told the lad to take the car there, and have it fixed. Call me when it's done. As of today, no call, but I do see the Cabrio outside of the shop. I hear from a friend of mine whose VW Cabrio was in the same shop for some light work, that he talked to the Owner who informed him that the fuel line allegedly runs INSIDE the body channels, and is NOT reachable from under the car.
Query: Is this the case? If so, is there a way to cut and pull out the old line and feed a new one in its place without tearing the interior out? Is it just better to forget this design and run a new line underneath the chassis (like pretty much everyone else does) and attach it underneath with automotive clamps and hardware?
I need some direction here from anyone who has faced this (or a similar) issue. Mechanic is going to ask me how I want it fixed, and I'd like to give him some alternatives, if any.
Thanks, as always!
