207 slave cylinder bleeding

Unread post by max1 »

Evening all. My clutch slave cylinder is leaking & I need to replace it. Do I have the bleed process right?>

Connect the hydraulic hose back onto the new cylinder & press one of the two securing clips down.
Fill up the reservoir.
Pump the clutch pedal until fluid comes out of the cylinder bleed hole.
Press the other remaining clip down & put the cap on over the bleed hole.

Is that it am I missing anything, will that get all the air out ?

Thanks

Pretty much spot on. Just keep in mind that the fluid dissapears fast from the reservoir. Maybe like 3 pushes on the pedal and reservoir is almost empty. You don't want to get air in the system again so refill is quite often.
Also I like to press from the other side of the slave cylinder (from transmission side). There can be trapped air too and pressing pedal releases fluid only from the circuit. But if the air is stuck behind the bleed hole, you have to press the cylinder manually from transmission side.

Also it's easier if you connect a hose to the bleeding hole and hung it somewhere up. You won't get air back into the system that way. The hose will fill up with fluid and the bubbles naturally rises so it will suck only the fluid back and not air with it.

Thanks a lot for this really helpful, especially about pumping at the cyclinder itself. Wondering now roughly how much dot 4 ill need - 1L ?

If you're doing only a slave cylinder, you should be good with 1 liter. But chaning the fluid in whole braking/clutch system might be a good idea if you have an old brake fluid. Just be quick with the cylinder changing.

PS: If you're clumsy, like me, you should get some earplugs. They are great for plugging in tubes so you don't loose much of the fluid. With this job you will probably not need them. The hose is flexible so you unplug it after removing the cylinder and then plug new cylinder right in.
